Let’s face it – I’m in my twenties so it’s a given that I’m looking for something fun to do but I’m broke. So it goes. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of awesome stuff to do! Here’s what to do in the Midcoast for FREE this weekend July 10-13!
North Atlantic Blues Festival Club Crawl
Rockland Main Street – 9 p.m. til whenever! Free!
Go to the incredible Blues Fest on Rockland Harbor with live music by top notch blues musicians playing all day 11am- 7pm Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12. Tickets at the gate are $35 per day. Bring a lawn chair, and, for the love of God, bring sun screen! I know every single Inn and hotel is booked up for this event, but give the Pen Bay Chamber of Commerce a shout and they can help direct you to available lodging options and don’t worry, there are cabs available to get you home after the show. Musicians take over downtown Rockland before the festival starts and after the gates close each night. There will be live music at bars and restaurants Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings for festival attendees and regular folk as well. The Club Crawl takes place Saturday evening and shuts down Main Street so it’s pedestrian only. Bands line the streets, and fill up the bars all around town, talk about a block party!! It’s free to listen to the music on Main Street. If you hold a festival bracelet you can get in to the various restaurants and bars with live music. The rest of us will have to pay a cover fee at some of the venues, but the music on Main St is free for all! For more information on which bands play where and when, what the cover fees are etc., click here.
Free Music Summer Jam
Live music at the Blue Hill Park, Saturday, July 12 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. with music by funk band Merther and punk rockers, Jim Dandy! It’s good punk, trust me. Or don’t trust me, listen for yourself here.
Arts in the Park Belfast
Best darn arts & crafts fest around these parts will be happening i Belfast Saturday and Sunday,10-4 p.m. Music & food & everything good at Belfast Waterfront. Live Music by The Bad Daddys Band, The Uke Group, Leaky Boot Jug Band, and more.
First Annual St George River Tubing Event
Grab an inner tube and get ready to float! This sounds awesome. Bring some friends, tie your tubes together. There are already over 200 participants on the facebook event page, so it’s going to be insane. And it’s free!! Have fun! Starts at 12:30 p.m.
The Maine Event
Okay I tricked you, this one’s not free, but it’s wicked cool. The Roller Derby girls are at it again. They roll at Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport, doors at 4 p.m. Tickets: $10 in advance, $12 at door. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend checking this out. The games are cool to watch and the half time shows are always wicked cool. Don’t worry if you know nothing about the sport, they’ll explain the rules. Family friendly fun. Food available for purchase at the event.
