Lobster, Beer, Wine & Music – Weekend Events for July 31 – August 3

Cook-Off: Lobster Festival is the place to be on Thursday. They’re filming a Food Network Cook-Off with local culinary celebs like Michelle Ragussis as judges (Michelle was a season 8 contestant on Food Network’s TV show Next Food Network star. — I know, I adore her, too). Anyway, come watch the filming of the cooking competition which starts at 9 AM and the judging will be at 11AM. Missed it? No worries. Swing by The Pearl on the pier for some drinks or dinner and drinks and you can probably meet Michelle.

Steins & Vines! Beer & Wine Tasting as part of Lobster Festival? Why didn’t we think of this sooner?! Event is from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Maine Lighthouse Museum,1 Park Drive, in Rockland. Admission gets ya 10 tastings of beer and/or wine. Craft beers by one of my faves, Allagash Brewing Company, as well as a bunch more including Rockland’s local brewery, Rock Harbor Brewing, and more Maine brews like Gritty’s BrewingAndrew’s Brewing CompanyPeak Organic Brewing Company, and Sebago Brewing Company. Wineries will include Cellardoor WineryBreakwater Vineyards,Savage Oakes Vineyards and Winery, and Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery.Cost: $30 or $35 at the door. 21+ only, obvi. Rock on! After you’ve sampled tastey beverages to your heart’s content, come inside the festival grounds and enjoy music by American folk singer/songwriter Dave Mallett who will play at 8 p.m. on the Lobster Festival main stage. And then, my fave Maine Band, The Mallett Brothers Band will play alternative country/folk rock starting at 9 p.m. also on the main stage. Admission to the park

Friday, August 1

First Fridays Art Walk in Rockland, 5-8 p.m. free! I don’t know who started this art walk concept but thank you. Come explore Rockland downtown by popping in to the various galleries around main street. Art, wine and nibbles for all! www.artsinrockland.org

Hurry Down Sunshine play jazzy blues at Highlands Coffeehouse, 7- 8:30 p.m.

Iris Dement & Her Band, 7:30 p.m. at Camden Opera House. Country-folk at it’s best. $28 advance tickets: amdenOperaHouse.com or 470-7066. or $32 at the door.

Brad Hooper plays bluesy Americana at 8 p.m.,  no cover, at Water Dog Tavern, 1 Starr St., Thomaston.

Joint Relief plays roots rock & country blues at Rock City Coffee Cafe 7-9 p.m.

Tomorrow Morning knows what’s up with some acoustic reggea pop rock at Trackside Station starting at 9 p.m., 21+, $3 cover. Music like Jack Johnson style. So get yourself a Corona and come down and relax.

Saturday, August 2

Blues Fest in Damariscotta! Another blues fest? Heck yeah! Lots of music on the Main Stage in Darrows Barn in Damariscotta and a Pub Crawl to follow! www.dambluesfest.com

Alice Limoges Band at Rock City Cafe, 7-9 p.m. This girl can play. She’s got catchy acoustic jazzy folk music coming at ya. Music is free, but tipping encouraged. Come in and enjoy food, desserts, beer, wine & coffee. 

Eds Meds play dance, funk, rock music at Myrtle St. Tavern starting at 9 p.m., 21+, $3 cover.

Rock N Blues Fest a tribute to Jonny Winter blues band performs at Lobster Festival main stage. $30 for reserved seats. mainelobsterfestival.com or 1-800-LOB-CLAW.

Sunday, August 3

Ghost of Paul Revere are playin awesome folk music, like seriously, it’s awesome. I wouldn’t lie to you. They have great rhythms and awesome harmonies, and it’s just beautiful. Check it out for yourself! They’ll play from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Coveside in Bristol.

Tim Sullivan‘s Photography Opening at Highlands Coffee House. It’s also the Jazz Jam from noon- 3 p.m. Check out the amazing photography here!

Blueberries! Public Free Pick, 10:00am – 2:00pm at Beech Hill Coastal Mountain Land Trust. Yay blueberries!! 

Sunday Sundeas! It’s a fabulous (and delicious) tradition and I strongly encourage you to join me. And, I’ve got just the place for you to do it! Home Kitchen Cafe (you know the place that won Best Breakfast in New England? Yeah, them. They have a new bakery/ice cream place called Kone Home and they have a Sticky Bun Ice Cream Sundea that I cannot wait to try and if you’ve ever tried their sticky buns, you’ll know why. Also, Home Kitch has THE BEST Bloody Mary I’ve tasted in this area, and let me tell you, I’ve sampled quite a few! But do let me know if there is a place I should try!
