Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk
Friday, June 6, 2014 – Rockland – 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Arts In Rockland (AIR) brings us their monthly Art Walk which falls on the first Friday of each month. Stop in to any of the downtown art galleries in Rockland and pick up an AIR brochure with a list and map of all the participating galleries. Galleries will offer guests wine, snacks, and an opportunity to see a wide variety of art. Free event.Not to miss: Caldbeck’s “A Year in the George’s River Watershed: Elizabeth Billings and Michael Sacca” on Elm St., and Harbor Square Gallery on Main for the sculptures on the rooftop patio and a view of downtown Rockland.
Midcoast Has Talent
Tuesday, June 10, 2014 – Rockland – 6:00 p.m. Midcoast Has Talent is a talent show for the locals. Paul Benjamin, who runs the North Atlantic Blues Festival, will be the Master of Ceremonies for this variety show at The Strand Theatre on Main Street in Rockland. The show is open to everyone so there will be a wide range of entertainment genres, styles and experience levels. Tickets are $10 for Adults, $5 for Students under 18. www.rocklandstrand.com

Saturday, June 14, 2014 – Rockport – 5:00 p.m. The Rock Coast Rollers are ready to roll again. They will face off against the CT RollerGirls‘ Yankee Brutals at the Midcoast Recreation Center on Rt 90 in Rockport. This is fun for the whole family. Definitely worth checking out if you’ve never seen a derby bout. Don’t worry if you don’t know the rules of the game, they’ll explain! Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Maine Lobster Boat Races 2014

Saturday, June 21, 2014 – 10:00 a.m. Pirate re-enactors attack, defend, and seek treasure in Damariscotta. Come in costume to watch the fun and visit the Pirate Bazaar at Schooner Landing for games, music, and themed retail shops and more pirate fun around town. Summer Solstice Street Fair
Saturday, June 21, 2014 – Rockland – 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Rockland’s Main Street celebrates the arrival of summer with food, sidewalk sales, music, street entertainment, and activities. There’s even a whoopie pie eating contest! Right on, Rockland. One of these years I will enter that contest, gosh darn it! Main Street is pedestrian only for the event with music, food venders, crafts and friendly folks. www.rocklandmainstreet.com
But don’t leave early! Restaurants will also host bands after the fair simmers down. The Depths will play at Rock Harbor Pub & Brewery, followed by the popular Maine rapper Spose (he’s awesome) also at Rock Harbor ($15 cover). The Landings will have Golden Oak playing. Cinnamon will be playing at the Myrtle Street Tavern. Cinnamon plays fun rock/pop classics with female vocalist, and they were a hit last time they played in Rockland!
Midsummer at The Knox Museum
Saturday, June 21, 2014 – Thomaston – 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
Celebrate the longest day of the year with a bonfire, live music, dancing, flower crowns, fireworks, and a traditional pig roast buffet. Not sure whose tradition the pig roast is, but I am so game. But seriously, it’s a lovely community event. Last year about 200 people came out to partake.
There will also be a “Wife” Carrying Race (better start training for this one, boys!). Two bands will be performing. Darlin’ Corey will be playing fiddle & guitar around the bonfire, and The Lorna Prescott Quartet will perform jazz music, followed by a fantastic fireworks display! Advance ticket prices are $10 for Adults, $8 for Museum Members, and $2 for Kids and $15/$12/$4 at the door. Cash bah. Tented event. Rain or shine. www.knoxmuseum.org
Harry’s Hoe Down

Harry’s Hoe Down is for you more free-spirited folk looking for a fun way to experience art, music and Maine outdoors. The music fest will be featuring a wide variety of musical acts including Brother Joscephus and the Love Revolution, Sly-Chi, Spose, Jerks of Grass, Dave Gutter, and The 220s, and like a lot more. Maine Fare Festival in Belfast
Friday, June 21 & Saturday, June 22, 2014 – Belfast The perfect event for food enthusiasts, Maine Fare brings together chefs, restaurateurs, food makers, and food lovers. They’ll offer garden and farm tours, a tour of a lobster boat too, cider and cheese tasting, cooking demonstrations, discussions, Q & A’s, live music, with beer from Marshall Wharf Brewing Co. Free Summer Concert Series at Savage Oakes
Sunday, June 29, 2014 – Union – 2:00 p.m. Country and folk singer/songwriter Jonathon Edwards will be at Savage Oakes to kick off their summer concert series. Food and drink are available for purchase starting at noon. Music starts at 2 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, bring some friends. The winery offers self-guided tours of the vineyards and the tasting room is open daily 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Savage Oakes is located at 174 Barrett Hill Road in Union, not far off of Route 17.
